Magic Scores a Win with SpiderFiber Internet Connection During the 2009 NBA Playoffs
07-06-2009
Orlando, FL – Spiderhost, a privately owned managed services, data center, and high-speed Internet service company, is pleased to announce it successfully provided the Orlando Magic with two Ethernet connectivity upgrades during the 2009 NBA playoffs.
Spiderhost’s high-speed Internet service, SpiderFiber, has given the Magic a metro Ethernet connection for just over a year. Before that the Magic relied on Spiderhost’s T1 service.
SpiderFiber provides dedicated Internet bandwidth with speeds up to 1000Mbps and covers Volusia, Seminole, Orange, Brevard, Lake, and Hillsborough counties. SpiderFiber also ensures data connectivity between remote locations, like it does between the Magic’s main offices and the Amway Arena.
SpiderFiber is faster and more reliable than cable, DSL, or T1. Redundant components, media paths, and connections mean more stability, fewer lags, and little to no down time. But its scalability is the big draw – and what the Magic called upon during the fast-paced NBA playoffs.
“When the Magic made the playoffs there was a ton of video and media being sent and received across their wireless and wired networks, and lots of arena visitors were using their iPhones and laptops,” said Spiderhost president Dale Frohman. “The situation called for a lot more bandwidth than they normally use so they called and said, ‘We need more bandwidth’.”
That call came twice: once on Wednesday, June 3rd and again on Tuesday, June 9th. The first upgrade was done by Friday, June 5th; the second was completed within hours of the call and in time for Tuesday’s 9:00 PM game. Both times the bandwidth was increased by 50% via remote connection; visits by Spiderhost staff to the Amway Arena ensured the Internet connection was working at optimal capacity.
Said Frohman, “Even though the Magic didn’t come out on top, they provided the media and their guests with a flawless Internet connection and fast speeds. Next time they’ll have the fast SpiderFiber and the title!”
